James Rounsevell

James was born and raised on a small  farm in South East Cornwall. He attended the village school at Upton Cross before his secondary education at Callington.

His upbringing was rurally based and his interest in country pursuits started at home in his early years, following in his fathers footsteps shooting and fishing.

It was obvious that he was a keen shot from an early age and his skills at clay shooting were confirmed by his early teenage years.

James Rounsevell

He practised with his father Chris, at Lower Lake Shooting ground at Upton Cross weekly until his debut win at the  2012 West Country Game Fair at the Bath and West Showground. Later that year James won the English Skeet Cornish  Junior Championship at only 15 and then continued with several more wins.  He then won the South West Junior English Skeet Championship and the highlight of his year was a Silver medal in the British English Skeet Junior Championship In Nottingham.

Fortunately, in 2012 James’ successes were featured in the Western Morning News and he was spotted and offered coaching by Pinky Le Grelle – a well recognised Great Britain National Shooter and  International Past Master.

Starting his professional coaching in 2013, she has managed to help James achieve his extensive list of  National and International Awards at many Championships ( see attached list ).

James has been practising his clay shooting weekly at Pinky Le Grelle’s private range at Colquite, Bodmin where he averages 100 targets at each session. Ideally, he needs to be practising over 400 targets a week to achieve his ambitions in 2016. James works in his fathers butchery business, based on the farm and they have built their own skeet range this summer ( using Bond Timber ) to help him with his training. Currently, the only sponsorship James recieves is from ‘Laporte’ who sponsor 2 clay pigeon traps and the clays he practises with for the next two years.

Between October 2014 and October 2015 James was British Number 1 in the Under 21 category for his sport.  He has represented Great Britain Juniors in 3 International Competitions this year; in Germany (World Cup), Slovenia ( European Championships) and Italy ( World Championships) . He was also chosen to Captain two of those Junior teams, which was a great honour. His most notable international achievement was coming 13th at the World Championships- just 3 clays off being in the televised final.

James, now 19, has been most recently ranked in the top ten Seniors in Great Britain after a successful year, culminating in the British Championship in Yorkshire in October.

In 2016, and the future, James hopes to pursue his ambition and reach the top 5 in the country. Currently he is under selection to represent England in the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast City, Australia.  The British Shooting Board has offered James guidance for his physical and mental development to pursue his ambitions but unfortunately no financial support is offered.

Ultimately, James’ ambition is to be selected for the Tokyo Olympics 2020.
